MAKEUP LOOKS

Nature has an ingenious way of balancing colors so that nothing bold ever appears outlandish or garish. Case in point: The plumage of a bird. Inspired by the beauty and color of exotic birds, our new Limited Edition Autumn/Winter 2017 Makeup Collection: Birds of Paradise, is an interplay of bright and subtle hues reminiscent of the plumage of a bird, which looks as gorgeous on skin of any tone as it does in the wild.

“The collection’s palette of jewel tones in indigo, rose and golden yellow are offset by vibrant berries, saturated plums as well as soft ivories and petal pinks,” says Janell Geason, Aveda Global Artistic Director, Makeup.

In the spirit of the seasonal trends, here are two looks Janell created for this collection.

Makeup Look 1: Cardinal Star  

A classic red and gold palette creates a glamorous look that’s perfect for day or night.

1. Create a luminous complexion with Inner Light™ Mineral Tinted Moisture Concealer where needed and set lightly with Inner Light™ Mineral Loose Powder.

2. Using the Eye Contour Brush, sweep Petal Essence™ Single Eye Color in Mauve Quartz from upper lash line to crease, then define outside corners and bottom lash line.

3. Apply Petal Essence™ Single Eye Color in Saffron Glow to center of top and bottom lid with a Medium Eye Color Brush.

4. Apply Petal Essence™ Single Eye Color in Glacial Lotus to inner eye corners and center of the upper lash line using a Smudger Brush.

5. Line upper lash line with Petal Essence™ Eye Definer in Cacao.

6. For added intensity, define outer lash line with Petal Essence™ Single Eye Color in Fjord using a Smudger Brush.

7. Curl the lashes, and sweep Mosscara™ in Black Forest to the upper and lower lashes.

8. Define brows with Petal Essence™ Eye Color Trio in Gobi Sands with the Brow/Lash Brush.

9. Use a Blush Brush to contour cheekbones with Petal Essence™ Eye Color Trio in Gobi Sands (or another shade slightly darker than your skin tone.)

10. Highlight cheekbones and the bridge of nose with Petal Essence™ Single Eye Color in Glacial Lotus (or any shade that gives your skin tone a natural glow.)

11. Dust Petal Essence™ Face Accents in Plum Fresco on cheekbones for luminosity.

12. Fill in lips with Nourish-Mint™ Lip Definer. Apply Nourish-Mint™ Smoothing Lip Color in Poppy Ember.

Makeup Look 2: Plum Glow

 Rich berries and plums create a dramatic look, suited for a special occasion or night out.  

1. Create a luminous canvas with Inner Light™ Mineral Tinted Moisture Concealer where needed and set lightly with Inner Light™ Mineral Loose Powder.

2. Contour eyes with Petal Essence™ Eye Color Trio in Gobi Sands, using a Contour Brush, and define the lower lash line.

3. Apply Petal Essence™ Single Eye Color in Glacial Lotus to the inner eye corners, then brush from upper lash line to crease.

4. Define upper lash line and outer half of lower lash line with Petal Essence™ Eye Definer in Black Orchid, then soften definer with a Smudger Brush.

5. Curl lashes and sweep Mosscara™ in Black Forest onto upper and lower lashes.

6. Define brows with Petal Essence™ Eye Color Trio in Gobi Sands.

7. Use a blush brush to contour cheekbones with Petal Essence™ Face Accents in Creme Caramel (or another shade slightly darker than your skin tone.)

8. Highlight cheekbones and bridge of nose with Petal Essence™ Face Accents in Spark (or any shade that gives your skin tone a natural glow.)

9. For added sheen, lightly sweep Tulasara™ Bright Concentrate over highlighted areas with a Blush Brush.

10. Dust Petal Essence™ Face Accents in Plum Fresco along cheekbones for soft sheen.

11. Apply Nourish-Mint™ Smoothing Lip Color in Sangria Bloom to the lips.

12. For added depth and sheen, layer with Nourish-Mint™ Rehydrating Lip Glaze in Mulled Plum.
